We dont have one anymore. I had one that was with me for 15 years til she moved. I sent her a big departure check when she left. Never found anyone better so I do it myself. I agree. Pay your people if you have “people”. It was the one thing I afforded myself and she was family
-
I helped pay her sons college too. She was a gem. Still miss her and we are still in touch despite language barriers. She is retired and her sons work to take of her. Her boys would call me at 12 yrs old with supplies she needed. I miss her!

If the Federal government can afford to “inject” $1.5 trillion into Wall Street to prop up financial markets during this crisis, they can afford “inject” paid leave in the bank accounts of Americans left w/o a paycheck.
-
That was an interest loan, not cash handed over. They made up the money out of nothing, and the banks will either "pay it back" or they'll give them a "bailout." It's all on paper. Different from cash for citizens, but not so different they can't find the money.

1) Well....you're gonna die on it. It's certainly true of some folks, but not true of most. Paying a housekeeper legally, with all the accompanying taxes etc. eats up the take-home of one full salary. This is a national emergency with all sorts of untoward circumstances.

2) It speaks volumes that the plea is to private employers, rather than to the government, who ought to be picking up this bill. I speak from experience. We had a housekeeper for 2 decades. We covered every sick day, SS, plus vacation, but we couldn't have paid her for months.

I remember the flak my mom got just because she paid full SSA for her part-time cleaning lady 40 years ago. Amazing how cheap well off people can be.
