Rock-climbing & science complement each other so well; climbing helps me push my boundaries, view failure as a path to mastery, take risks & taught me how to try again for years on a single objective. Love this article & these perspectives from different scientists.

2/2 Now that I am doing coding for the first time & RNA-sequencing, the amount of failing should be pretty high & perfect for a weekly share. :) Will also be doing a blogpost on the website on how to fail well and what to keep in mind as we try again.

This week I had a technique work after months of troubleshooting. I feel it'd be a disservice to my peers & students if I only shared my progress & never the chronic failure that led to success. I want to do a each week if I am also going to share my small successes.

I overheard PhD folk subtly mocking undergraduate students, please don't do this. Don't forget that we all started somewhere. Undergraduates are the future, so treat them like it. Bring them into the conversation, help them feel respected & valued as people & as researchers.
