Maybe they recognize that their bipartisan platitudes are wrong and cynically repeat them anyway because it allows them to avoid embracing substantive, humane progressive policies? Sometimes hard to know if they actually believe their own BS.
The establishment is more interested in the optics of civility than the work of being a true opposition party. So to a degree they believe their own b.s. because unlike for millions of others their overall material conditions haven't changed. They believe normal is coming back.

I hope on some level, Joe Biden realizes that his precious legacy is dependent on him actually passing some kind of legislative agenda, however inadequate. When GOP obstructs, hopefully he’ll be forced to set platitudes aside & wield power (abolish filibuster, expand court).

Or if not Joe Biden, those around him. Even the Democratic establishment, if they haven’t completely forgotten the Obama years, must recognize that they have to deliver SOMETHiNG and that the GOP is ideologically opposed to even the most tepid Dem policies.
