: The elite refuse to accept that our government can no longer govern. The inability to pass, or even have #MedicareForAll on the table in a real way in the middle of a pandemic with no cure is the canary in the coal mine signaling the death of American republicanism.

While I'm not trying to diminish the importance of beating Trump in November, we have bigger problems on our hands. A simple change of the guard is not sufficient to address the underlying fractures in our system of governance.

Put plainly, in real terms, regardless of your voter registration, our elected officials are no longer responsive to the needs of the people. We've been building to this for some time.

If we can't do M4A in the present context, it's naive to believe we have the capability to address less visible, crises like the exigencies of climate change or deeply rooted structural racism & systems built on white supremacy that must be dismantled

We have grown complacent in this country that these matters will be handled eventually, or that the next election will bring about the much needed change. But we've reached a point where this mode of thinking is leading us deeper into a dark wood.

We face an economic crisis that is sure to only worsen coupled with a pending eviction and homelessness crisis. We can't leave the country and pretty soon even silly little things that keep folks at ease like having a new movie to watch will be off the table.

I will never fully turn my back on electoralism, but folks who fancy themselves pragmatic and in the "middle" need to wake up to the realities we are facing. They must join those demanding action be taken to meet, at this point -- what are basic and common sense needs.

Electeds need to get out of their beltway and insider politics bubble to see the writing on the wall and begin to deliver on these demands. The status quo is not sustainable. Those whole fail to act now to protect what little material comfort they have do so at great peril.
