I could not fathom traversing unknown danger to bring my family to a better life, just to have my children ripped out of my hands. I also could not fathom being a Representative with power and not fighting tooth and nail to end such cruelty by whatever means necessary.
Which brings me to the final straw: Grace Meng's third no vote on impeachment.
Each no vote showed a lack of courage and moral clarity. What we needed was to slow Trump's agenda and dismantling of our systems.
Only after I entered the race did @Grace4NY vote for impeachment.
This wasn't the only time I saw a lack of leadership and compassion from @Grace4NY.
When I was working with a coalition of justice impacted folks to get The REAL Act introduced, which would undo some of the harm of the 1994 Crime Bill, she didn't sign on as a cosponsor.
She did, however, turn around in 2017 to vote for The Thin Blue Line Act, which was an attempt to actively undercut the #BlackLivesMatter
movement.
She did this after Eric Garner was murdered in our city. There are too many Black folks who's lives were stolen by then to name.
Yet again we find ourselves in a moral crisis, and @Grace4NY won't put politics aside to reject the NYC PBA endorsement she accepted last month.
We have come full circle. Our city and our country have been reeling. People have been rising up. But Grace Meng remains the same.
I urge you to go out and vote tomorrow, and make your voice heard.
@Grace4NY has spent 8 years trying to make folks slightly more comfortable while suffering the status quo.
I want to work with you to rebuild the entire system.
