These are only a small sliver of the names of Black lives lost over the years at the hands of police violence during @Grace4NYs tenure in Congress. She signed onto these bills, which had been introduced long before George Floyd sparked an awakening, only a few days ago.

So what was she doing during those years? She was voting for Republican-sponsored pro-police bills like the Thin Blue Line & Protect & Serve Acts created to undercut BLM. Was a nay on an amendment that would have demilitarized the police, & has been absent on actual reform billspic.twitter.com/ljHURFPpOg

This is probably why she only has a score of 18% from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. You can see for yourself how many of the bills they support that she doesn’t. https://cqrcengage.com/cj/app/person/16772?0 …

During those years, I was working on advancing racial justice and combating systemic racism. I worked alongside, and under the leadership of, justice impacted communities to remove barriers to higher ed for currently and formerly incarcerated folks.

Our coalition succeeded in introducing the REAL Act in Congress, which would restore Pell access for incarcerated students, undoing an original sin of the ’94 Crime Bill. Rep. Grace Meng has still not signed on to support it.

Last year while I was campaigning for anti-carceral DA Candidate Tiffany Cabán against zealous prosecutor Melinda Katz, Rep. Meng was “staying out of the race”.pic.twitter.com/ZZ3gRY4LCj

Given what is happening in our country right now, we cannot afford to re-elect a politician when we need a reformer. Especially a politician who is obviously trying to obfuscate their record. It’s dishonest. She’s no leader on Criminal Justice reform. We need accountability.
