I was raised by my mom & Abuela in a one bedroom apartment. My mom, a retired

It always felt wrong that so many people I knew and loved worked so hard, yet had to struggle so much for basic necessities like housing. It felt wrong because it was wrong. It still is, and I don't want folks to keep enduring that cruel struggle.

It wasn't always just me, mom, & Abuela in our one bedroom. Family lived with us from time to time. Once there were five of us, with my uncle and Abuela's sister. I loved those days surrounded by family, but they shouldn't have had to endure housing uncertainty.

Everyone I knew was struggling to get by, and they all deserved better. Everyone deserves a home. I'm proud to come from a family that takes care of each other no matter how much or how little we have. I'd like to live in a country that does the same.
