Still thinking about how excited I am about the #HomesGuarantee plan that @PplsAction dropped yesterday. Housing is a human right, & legislation passed by Congress could provide homes to millions, improve the economy, meet GND goals, bolster labor & address the racial wealth gap.
If you haven't read the plan yet, please do: http://www.HomesGuarantee.com . It accounts for critical issues like community planning, a school-to-union pipeline, carbon reduction, permanent supportive housing, and mixed use models that include vital community services. #HomesGuarantee
I can't wait to work with groups like @PplsAction to accomplish these goals. I believe that access to affordable housing is a national priority, and that we need a new vision of social housing in America. #HomesGuarantee
My own plan for a #HomesGuarantee calls for 25 million new environmentally sustainable social housing units by 2050, supports expanding funding for existing programs, and creating guaranteed housing with wrap around services to address homelessness and improve community health.
My plan will desegregate poverty, and lift barriers to housing for justice involved folks. Like the @PplsAction plan, my legislation would provide employment to local labor at prevailing wages, bolster unions, and guarantee high safety standards for workers. #HomesGuarantee
I am grateful for all of the hard work of activists, organizers, community members, and housing impacted folks to bring a #HomesGuarantee to the fore. I can't wait to get to work to help make it a reality, because (one more time for the back...) housing is a human right!
