THREAD: Someone recently told me they weren't exactly clear on what I meant by "putting people before politics, human dignity above corporate greed, and the needs of the many before the benefit of the wealthy and the powerful" so I thought expanding on that might be useful.

By putting people before politics I mean I support issues like the decriminalization of sex work at the federal level, supporting the work of local activists like @RedCanarySong and @DecrimNY even if it is politically unpopular because...

...at the end of the day sex workers are human beings, living on the margins and exploited by those who capitalize on the stigma associated with the work.

More often than not they're migrants or members of the LGBTQIA community forced into the shadows and always left out of the policy making process; becoming victims of exploitation and of a rescue mentality when what they need is empowerment and a seat at the table.

By "human dignity above corporate greed" I mean transforming our immigration system so that our nation of refuge acts like one, instead of incarcerating children, ripping families apart, and ...

...weaponizing federal agencies to stock camps maintained and being profited by, private prison corporations. The same corporations that contract with states across the country continuing to lock away black and brown bodies under the guise...

...of public-private partnerships to address prison overcrowding, when in reality they are just a dutiful cog in the machine of a broken system that fuels the mass incarceration crisis.
