I am all for #AngieThomasAppreciationDay. I almost didn't read THUG because I was slowly pulling out of YA lit (which I'll never quit let's be honest now.) But I knew it was a book that I would forever regret not reading if I didn't pick it up. And let me tell you.
This book made me sob full on tears while riding on a train. It is one of my top recommended books of 2017. It's a book I firmly believe will be taught in schools for future generations, if it isn't already, because it holds so many deeper themes that it's surface summary.

If you haven't read this book, you should. If you are trying to read more books by WOC, especially since it's Black History month, read this book (and continue the trend throughout the rest of the year, duh.) And be sure to have tissues.
