Yikes. NTA. The rule in my house w/my roommate tends to be if you suggest buying dinner you're either buying for Both or splitting. I'd never suggest it and then expect him to pay. This dude is a bucket of red flags that should have been obvious before marriage but c'est la vie
Shocking news: an spouse is not a roommate.
I think her point was highlighting that even her relationship with her roommate (which is presumably is less close than a marriage) has better commitment to respecting the other partner, boundaries & communication than this marriage.
