If you've never had any kind of Bengali or Thai or other international cuisine, then you might confuse the various kinds of rice. (Personally I prefer brown basmati rice.) He's acting rude for what she did. Simple communication would suffice. Cook the mixed rice & have a meal.

I bet there are tons of people who have no idea that there are different kinds of rice, particularly of people who don't cook a lot. She says she doesn't do the cooking. So this adds up.
