I'm so done with YA books with political overtones. I am reading the sequel to American Royals - reimagining America as a monarchy - which should be fascinating! EXCEPT THE ENTIRE BOOK IS ABOUT WHO IS DATING WHOM. Literally an alarm just went off AND IT'S AN EXCUSE FOR ALL THESE

I know it's STAR WARS but this is a super good YA book with a lot of really great political intrigue (and also lots of fashion!) and very little romance at all. No Anakin! It chronicles her first term as Senator and the STRUGGLES balancing the role before that fuckboy came backpic.twitter.com/YPo8pg5n9v

A major part of the book is the code switching she has to do as a woman in politics to strike a balance of strong and demanding of respect, but not too intimidating for the fragile men in politics And a queen Amidala-focused prequel just came out, too, but I haven't read it yet
