The humour is very British and dark, which we tend to use to highlight the absurdity of situations and address difficult issues through that lens. I've noted that this approach comes over as offensive to many US readers (but not all) who think it condones those things.

Case in point "Judge Dredd" - the comic about ultraviolent policing in a future city. Gets criticised a lot for "glamorising authoritarianism" and "power trip" mentality. It's a satire of those things - life sentences for littering etc - taken to absurd degrees
