Me, myself, personally... The amount of math and science I've done while writing comics is downright unconscionable.

For instance: I was just writing a scene where a girl has a crush on an alien boy. I knew his age wouldn't be immediately clear, so I wanted to hang a lantern on it. She's 14 and asks how old he is. He says he just turned 26. Moment ruined. She decides he's too old.

He's taken aback. She's fourteen? His cousin is 14 and she just learned her alphabet. Does he have a crush on a child? Now they're both having a crisis. But wait, he's from Venus, how many days are in a year on Venus?

The answer is less than one, Venus days are longer than Venus years. Not useful in determining relative age. So now there's a whole scene of them figuring out the relative time between the two planets to discover that, by Earth years, he's about 16. Whew.

Suddenly he realizes he's not sure why this came up and she says, well, I was going to ask if I could kiss you and I wouldn't have been okay with kissing a 26 year old, but 16 is okay. I feel like it turned out the be a cute romantic scene, entirely because of math and science.
