All this talk of Away and the fact that one of the co-owners worked while going through chemo and how that's such strength is making me angry. Sure, that's good for her and if it's what she wanted to do, respect.

But also that mindset of a person being stronger because they worked while in the chemo chair can be toxic af. I always now take off 2 days when I have my infusions, because I'm fortunate to have a job with good sick time and a good boss.

When I started treatments years ago, I would go in for Rituxan in the morning and work in the afternoon. Because I wanted to show my dedication, that my illness "wouldn't defeat me" or some shit. Now I'm just happy to have a moment to breathe. To recover.

I'll be honest here: I was (and still occasionally am) terrified that I'll lose my job for someone who is healthier and who doesn't have to take sick days. And outside of infusions, I RARELY take a sick day. I'm more likely to work from home. This is STILL NOT HEALTHY.
