All this talk of Away and the fact that one of the co-owners worked while going through chemo and how that's such strength is making me angry. Sure, that's good for her and if it's what she wanted to do, respect.

But also that mindset of a person being stronger because they worked while in the chemo chair can be toxic af. I always now take off 2 days when I have my infusions, because I'm fortunate to have a job with good sick time and a good boss.

When I started treatments years ago, I would go in for Rituxan in the morning and work in the afternoon. Because I wanted to show my dedication, that my illness "wouldn't defeat me" or some shit. Now I'm just happy to have a moment to breathe. To recover.

Ugh I know this is irrational anger, especially as I just put in my days off for my next Rituxan rounds. But I find myself to be stronger because I take the time for myself, rather than let a job dictate and control my life.

Work/life balance is SO NECESSARY stop pretending it isn't. So many millennials came into the workplace in such a low point that it has become ingrained to be terrified to do anything at the risk of losing our jobs and this feeds into that STOP IT

This is such an important thing and such a direct and necessary confrontation to the "lazy and entitled" narrative we came of age into.

I know plenty of millennials who are lazy and entitled; I GET the frustration. But I know just as many (hell maybe more) that have been fed this mentality of "yes you can do this, but you risk your spot in line" even though it's something earned like vacation days or sick days

That infuriates me! So many older folks are saying things like "you should be grateful, they gave you that job etc" and like, no, we give them time and labor. It's a contract we entered into and we're entitled to the benefits of that contract and expected to provide only our end.

Start ups are JUST as bad too. It is kind of terrifying the pride taken by people who work through vacations/sick time. I also blame cell phones and the internet too and man can everyone tell I am anxious about going on vacation for a week?

I think about how we used to clock out, but can't now cuz internet, but don't get paid for those hours of work/being on call/stress & not to belittle to your main thesis, that any personal struggles are stigmatized & only viewed through an "effort" context that is SO damaging.
