Tearing my hair out with job applications but a bit of sunshine and a walk by the river makes for a calm head.

Found a female Diaea dorsata curled up inside a king Alfred's cake yesterday in Oxfordshire. Never seen one in the winter before and in an odd location!

Despite the wet weather, ladybird spider put in an appearance today! Part of display which has official opening on 15th February, to which all are invited. Great to see a spider feature so prominently in a public display!

My first female Dicranopalpus larvatus of the winter, low on outside wall this evening. Has possibly been in the wars - lost a couple of legs (frostbite? 🤔) but showing nice ‘forked’ palps

HS2 can get to fuck. 'We will create twice as much woodland/habitat than what we destroy'...yes, because a load of neglected, pesticide-soaked whips are the equivalent of ancient woodland, lowland heath and peat bog. Really!?

A week ago I lost my lovely gramp - the one who first showed me butterflies in the garden and taught me names of birds, our own west country David Attenborough! He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Take time to tell those special people how much they inspire you. 🦋🦢🦆🌻

Last winter a new species of harvestman for Britain - Dicranopalpus larvatus- was found on 3 islands in s. England and featured in the Society’s journal & newsletter. Will 2020 see its discovery on mainland Britain? Look for it now among leaf litter and on/under low surfaces!
