This one touched a bit of a nerve in the GG crowd. Did they ever admit that harassment and essentially online terrorism was being orchestrated in their name?

Honest question, because I had convos from back then of people saying anyone could claim to be GG and harass. And people in the Incel crowd are saying the same thing about the Toronto mass killer: he wasn't one of us.

But such distancing is often done instead of self-reflection and owning up to how the community's ideology led to the terrorism, thereby allowing that hateful, violent discourse to perpetuate and spin out another person so in pain that killing others makes sense to them.

I understand the pain driving GG, Incel, MRA, and the like. I even support some of the goals of the MRA, like addressing high suicide rates among men. But those groups must self-reflect about how they handle their pain, how it warps their perspectives and their actions.

We outside those communities, who suffer when they spin out killers, can not do as much good for their members as they can themselves.

Okay, I'll come at you in good faith hoping I don't regret this. As someone who aligns with one of those groups (GG) and who is utterly horrified by these murders - what would you propose? I barely paid any attention to incels before this, aside from thinking they were weird.

FWIW, I was talking about this with someone else yesterday (read whole thread). It seems to me that there are a bunch of young guys, lonely, probably depressed, who are dealing with this by hanging in a community that's making them worse. https://twitter.com/Lyde15/status/988917410068684800 …

Talk to them. Help them see that the way they are seeing the world isn't correct. Yes, it sucks to be rejected. I know that experience too, as a nerdy awkward girl through high school and college. But just because they are rejected doesn't mean they should hate on everyone else.

look at those buzzwords GG isn't even involved, it's all most like your trying to paint narrative grouping those you don't like togetherpic.twitter.com/2MXcfQtw8R

Meh. It's the usual agitprop used to "justify" rounding up the Enemies of the State. Since Something Must Be Done About *THOSE* Evil Creatures!
#GamerGate just got lumped in, since it's a popular scapegoat now.
