I'd argue that we would also have said, at this time last year, that the 2019 versions of Kentucky, Auburn, Texas Tech and Purdue, at the very least, wouldn't have beaten the 2018 versions of themselves. A lot can change between now and March

I do not believe that would be true for Kentucky. Last years team was pretty obviously better than 2017-2018 team besides game 1.

You mean the "December" versions of this year's squads vs. the "March" versions of those listed above? Ok...? That Purdue team from last year was 6-5 this time last year. That Auburn team had just gone to OT vs. a meh UAB team and was about to go 4-5 over the next 9 games.

100%. All the 1 and 2 seeds from last year, along with Texas Tech, would be the best team in the country this year. Weakest year in the sport this decade.

The talent gap between the alleged best teams and bubble teams is narrower than I can ever remember. I could see a final four consisting of four teams not currently ranked.

This season has been more fun than I can remember lately, every #1 or soon to be #1 getting taken down. March Madness should be on another level.
