    Doctors love dunking on quacks (I mean, I do it, it's fun) but we're not immune to believing iffy claims & anecdotes So before your corona hot-take bear in mind a lot of new eyeballs are on medtwitter & ppl are freaking out so don't share hearsay & don't post panicbait for likes

    Social media has been hugely valuable to me, esp recently. I try to spread some info & hopefully laughs (hey I said try) I'm afraid I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed w 100s of messages on here/YT/IG/Slack/whatsapp + emails every time I finish a case. I'm sorry if I don't reply.

    The bewildering maths of epidemiology. People may not understand that halving transmission doesn't mean half the cases⤵️. It's easy to feel powerless but you can that every effort you make can have immense repercussions. Good and bad. We can all do our bit.

    Early in outbreak, each COVID-19 case infects ~2.5 others on average. There's ~5 days between one infection and next, so we'd expect one case to lead to 2.5^6 = 244 more cases in a month. If we can halve transmission, so each infects 1.25 others instead, we'd expect 4 more cases.
