    I'm glad you pointed out how potent, even necessary, adapting better hardware was in the case of GPUs for Neural Nets. Do you also think better hardware could be used for yet another "new"(not new) jump in the field. I do, and it has been here all along. OTS even.

    Aside from envisioning, and waiting for, this anatomical niche to begin maturing since the late 90's, at the 45 second mark is the real deal. The next phase of expansion, which is more precisely what I have been expecting. The next 20 years will be interesting indeed.

    Wish I had the chance to show/tell Syd Mead about this. Glad the DARPA prgrm manager got the reference at the time. We were building the closest thing to a Johnny 5, but for real. Naturally I had to reference it at least once in the series of concept drawings.

    Ah, ok, this book is great . The "Where's Rosie?" chapter being by fav so far, since robots are my thing. I need to adjust what I said: I think we WOULD GREATLY BENEFIT from better hardware ALSO, "firstly" only relevant to sparking software dev/integration they need.

    About to dive in, am so curious as to how someone with your background is intending to resolve this as a pure software challenge . I still think you'll need better hardware, first, so I'm hoping to at least figure out why this detail remains so elusive...

    The difference between prediction and creation is more than just a matter of resource availability, though technically that's still the meat of it. The real hindrance is far more philosophical, social. These ideas are old, natural, and quite obvious.

    Where I was 10 years ago vs now. Will it ever happen, should it? Systems meant to learn by doing, memory from experience, and that takes time. A decade lost already, or is it a decade gained? Will I, we, ever know?

    Updating the Central Nervous System map, need to choose a cortex design so I can finish the skull. A is decade old tech, easy to omit. B is updated version, but complex and $$$. C is my ideal, but it's own special project. D is easiest, all OTS and not very $, near-term do-able.

    Waking up... Where I left off: head, sensors, brain(s), and interface. Two 3 DOF touchscreen ears, for training or video com. Pointable mic arrays, cameras, and when appropriate conveys "mood"(mode). Will approach that in a way that is meaningful, expression for a direct reason.

    Miss working on dinosaurs. Found old sketchbook with this on first page. Is rough study of a Gigantoraptor standing high, scouting. This thing fascinated me when discovered 10+ yrs ago. Largest oviraptor by far, could seriously challenge T-Rex, still surprised is not well known.

    Major sensory update. LIDAR, 21 "whiskers", moved spectrometer, high power LEDs, arrayed lesser LEDs, side mounting plates, 3 DOF ears w/touchscreens that flip as frwrd-facing monitors. Will sum/post more soon, hoping someone steals as much as possible b4 I starve to death, F it.

    Nothing says "robot dog" quite like the Off-Road Paw Claw. Every detail is functional, nothing fake or purely cosmetic.

    Well if I have a Foot Computer I may as well use it. Gonna stop at 64 touch points, most of them in gripper pads, larger paw pads are simpler, more like a gaming pad, only sensing basic direction being pressed from, but that should be useful enough, for now.

    Getting a grip, wheel/feet evolving nicely. Noticed plenty of room to up ganglion level, so ethernet line would be best. Ha, yes it's a Foot Computer. Already added 48 touch sensors to fingertip pads, wondering what else would be useful. Still room for more.
