My JBP take(everyone must have one, it's the law): it's amusing that there's now a center-right version of the kind of inscrutable intellectual making politically charged pronouncements that's been a staple of the far left. ->

Any examples? The ones I thought of: - JBP -> "cure for violence is enforced monogamy" - far left -> see picturepic.twitter.com/g9WESg1Czl

Slavoj Zizek might be a rough analog of JBP on the left, in the sense of “intermittent flashes of brilliant insight mixed with a lot of gibberish and some strongly-stated, dubious political views.”

ah, more like Foucault then? I've heard the name in passing, in conjunction with critical theory and postmodernism

Foucault is more than intermittently brilliant. He’s only moderately difficult to read. Unfortunately, though, he’s also sloppy, and prone to gross exaggeration or overinterpretation.

Qualitatively, yes. But his insights, when they were right, went significantly further than anyone else in the Continental tradition in the past few decades I think.
