How can center-right intellectuals be “silenced” if they are so popular? @slatestarcodex gives several different explanations: http://slatestarcodex.com/2018/05/23/can-things-be-both-popular-and-silenced/ …pic.twitter.com/aIWakiWxE2

Another explanation: the target of “silencing” is not the right, it is the moderate left. If you live in a rightish place, you can safely say what you think. If you are a center-leftist in the Bay Area… you will often do well not to say things you know most people agree with.

A self-described leftist, @CarolHortonBks, finds @jordanbpeterson’s work “intellectually engaging & personally meaningful,” although disagreeing with his politics—and was afraid to say so.pic.twitter.com/oBlG490jth

“Silencing” the moderate left, and leftists who care primarily about economic issues, has to be destructive for the left overall—even if it’s effective in the short run.pic.twitter.com/f7eKSbI074

I think it's a mistake to suggest people must be being disingenuous because of Peterson's obvious intelligence I watched this video and was honestly surprised at how stupid nearly every part of it was, even after everything I had read in the left press https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofmuCXRMoSA …

It’s oft said that there are two JBPs, the academic social philosopher/psychologist and the culture warrior, who are quite different. Reactions may depend in part on which one someone encounters first.

It's become less "silencing" and a lot more "loud shushing" People are caught up in the semantics, but there are a lot of people who refuse to read any positive articles about the IDW as they are shushed loudly by more left-focused media/personalities.
