Common dismissal: “Aren’t you just saying that ‘the map is not the territory’?” Attempting to clarify, I find myself baffled. Who ever thought the map WAS the territory? (No one.) What work was denying this supposed to do?

Because I'm a first world professional knowledge worker. Everything I've done since graduating has involved manipulating symbols of one sort or another. Some of those symbols correspond to physical systems. But my concern is with the symbols.

Really? Or is part of the meta-rational point that all we have are various maps, variously updating. Many are effective/useful - but all are nebulous.
