Common dismissal: “Aren’t you just saying that ‘the map is not the territory’?” Attempting to clarify, I find myself baffled. Who ever thought the map WAS the territory? (No one.) What work was denying this supposed to do?

(and yeah, this again comes back to the motte&bailey thing. You ARE saying the map isn't the territory, but you aren't JUST saying that the map isn't the territory, in the sense of "only saying the obvious simple true thing")
