My work is often compared with @jordanbpeterson’s.
I’ve had trouble understanding quite where he’s coming from.
This podcast made clear that yes, we do say similar things about many issues.
I did want to “on the other hand” him sometimes, though.https://twitter.com/Meaningness/status/995332885224837120 …

Heh, the similarity has been quite obvious. I’d assumed you’d already spotted it. I think Jordan has much more of a crisis-response structure to his program, while you’re mostly just noting a crisis without structuring your work as a response to it. Big urgency delta as a result.

Yes, people have been pointing it out for a long time. I just haven’t had time to follow up to understand his program properly.

I keep trying to get to the response part and keep being derailed by the time-consuming logistics of dying family members. Eventually I’ll explain exactly what to do, writing by bear-fat candlelight just after the last flickers of civilization go out.

Or perhaps your contribution can be a non-crisis response

I think Buddhism will probably be extinct in a generation or two—if it is not de facto extinct already. Not a promising source of continuity imo.https://approachingaro.org/endangered-species …

Agreed! OTOH, I do think we face a potential crisis of anti-systematicity, and addressing it is urgent:https://meaningness.com/metablog/stem-fluidity-bridge …

I take JP’s work as an attempt to communicate the value of systems, with the important recognition that they can also malfunction catastrophically (Nazism, communism), and that “tradition” by itself has elements of value, but is not a full answer.
