Idk, if we had invented a new name for a concept that already exists in decision science I feel like ppl would be griping about that too.

Ah, good! So that was what the definition I posted uses to distinguish rationalism (in this particular sense) from related attitudes (e.g. “rational methods often work, use them when you can!”).

Might just be too difficult to discuss abstractly. Feels like discussing whether there is an objective standard of Truth that science is approximating, or not? Maybe easier to just point at specific areas of scientific exploration & discuss whether they seem productive or not.
