      You can’t. That’s the point.

Who cares? We need an account of actual science in the real world. An account of how science would work if you were God is useless (and probably meaningless).

I'm trying to make a philosophical point here, pointing out physical difficulties is sort of missing the point

Philosophical theories that only work in counterfactual worlds are not interesting to me. (This is why I am not a philosopher; nearly all philosophical theories only work in imaginary worlds.)

the theory works no matter how many non-black objects you can inspect. that's the whole point I'm trying to make

Afaict, it “works” only by fiat. You simply legislate that, yes, eggplants are evidence for green ravens. You are allowed to use the word “evidence” to mean whatever you like, but if it doesn’t line up with what other people mean by it, they’re unlikely to listen to you.

it works by rounding down. none of this matters in the real world either way.

no one in the real world is going to use an eggplant to study raven color so your whole paradox is pointless, by your logic

But people do (mis)use various theories of scientific induction in the real world, and if those theories have obviously silly consequences, we ought to think seriously about where/when/why/how/whether they work

yes. I'm trying to think seriously about this by using constructed examples, and so are you. that's my point.

you can't object to the use of unrealistic thought experiments on my side while using them on yours.
