This is a great approach. A few people who intuitively get 1 & 2 without you explaining it will be your enthusiastic readers. They're also early adopters. To reach more mainstream, you'll eventually need to explain 1 & 2, but should start with 3 to get some momentum.

I love this approach as it acknowledges writers' limited time / energy, + evolving interests! I really didn't want to write parts 1 or 2 of my book... interestingly, those are the only parts that remain >90% relevant 6 years later (capital markets evolve quickly!)

I agree w/ @_molten_steel_ that a skeleton 1, 2 could suffice; I'd hesitate to omit them! In the future I'll focus any part(s) 3 less on current solutions (which WILL become dated), more on how to think about what constitutes a better solution + how to look for, recognize them.

Yeah do 3 first. A few ppl say no Y:X but if you find the right venue to expose it to you'll get the ppl who understand even if it's small at first. So with today's web you have to also put it where ppl who understand are likely to find it.
