Which constraint is that? Between Descartes and Newton, “mechanical” meant “no action at a distance.” Since Newton it’s had no coherent meaning afaik? Cc

Systems well-enough describable in terms of macroscopic solid bodies under the action of forces. No Maxwell, Schroedinger or Einstein involved, no fluid dynamics. That's just what I think of as 'mechanics'.
