Yeah my impression is there’s two different JPs. There’s the Meaning book one, who writes stuff, and the culture war one, who’s on YouTube. There’s some connection between the two, but it’s pretty obscure.

It's not well organised for people like me who are nosy about what the fuss is but like walls of text to read and not videos!

Well we both read Slate Star Codex, Meaningness and Ribbonfarm, right? that's a pretty self-selected audience...

True, maybe we're all the same person, traveling backwards and forwards in time...

We're all the same person but JBP is two :-D Podcasts, as often the case, are the answer.

When listening/watching stuff seems unavoidable, using an app that speeds up playback makes for a significantly better experience. I use one called MySpeed. Usually running at ~1.7x.

isn't that disorienting? does it pitch shift voices into falsettos? does it swallow meaningful pauses?

JBP already falsetto :-) Overcast has smart speed control and compresses gaps. But I can't do more than 1.25 speed and function in the world!

I didn’t know about Overcast! That looks promising. I find the iOS built in podcast app nearly unusable

I find it v good. And you can export/import opml playlist via (say) Dropbox. And somehow - I don't know how (but I paid a few bucks for premium), it synced everything in current state when I got a new iPhone...

However I did have to create a playlist and add all podcasts to it to generate a reliable 'oldest to newest' play order. Hence for a substantial part of my day I'm (eg right now) 17 days in the past...
