I'm getting the feeling I need to read Jordan Peterson just to find out what all the commotion is about.

It's not well organised for people like me who are nosy about what the fuss is but like walls of text to read and not videos!

Are you me?

most of what's on youtube is his classroom lectures, which is only tangentially culture warring. the media interviews (heavy on culture war) are there too, and probably generating most of the commotion.

the media meta-narrative on JBP is awful though and is mostly just the media talking about itself with while looking at a mirror with a Western Canadian accent.

I'd say JP is part self-help, part culture war plus some bits of philosophy, psychology and Jungian psychonalysis that supposedly sum up to some grand picture. I like the self help part, stay away from the culture war part and have mixed feelings about the rest.

I'm curious about the grand picture and how the culture war stuff falls out of it, I assume there is something there without which what he says sounds outrageous. It would explain what's happening.
