Thanks; interesting! My initial reaction to Scott’s Moloch post was quite negative; it seemed to be concretizing in a way that could be harmful. I haven’t re-read it since, but suspect I would like it better now. (Why the change? I don’t know.)

While I loved the post, I always kind of ignored the whole anthropomorphic angle of it: Moloch was a good name for the abstract phenomenon, but it was so obviously an abstract dynamic that I just treated "Moloch" as a memorable name and nothing more.

Right… but personifying does work powerfully on the mind, as mvs points out. You may be mostly immune, but most people aren’t. Myth is an important tool but should be used carefully :)
