Strang must be a centuries-old vampire by now, but seems way more in touch with math in the real world than most live math teachers. The curriculum, grade school through undergrad, hasn’t been significantly revised since computers happened. Suitable for zombies, not vampires.

I don’t know; I wasn’t paying attention to my classmates’ difficulties at the time. I gather that most people want to see concrete examples and methods first, and principles later or (preferably) never.

I can agree that most computational tasks end up reduced to linear algebra, and comp lin alg is super important and underapreciated - but "you’ll never actually have to solve an integral"? That seems too much, you can't do serious probability without analysis.

How many people do serious probability?
