Well, there’s a fairly distinctive “experience” called “stream entry” that is thought to be unmistakable. Whether that’s true, and how important it is, may be open to question.

Supposedly you just can’t understand the point unless you’ve “had the experience.” I don’t know if that’s true. (I have “had the experience,” afaict, and suddenly thought I understood lots of things. So I can’t speak to the possibility of understanding them w/o it.)

Wait, stream entry is supposed to be a prerequisite for this? The first time I clearly experienced what-I-think-was-this was certainly memorable enough, but somehow I thought that stream entry would feel more dramatic. This felt more like a moderate-strength meditation insight
