Generally, eternalists (such as Christians) see moral nihilism as the only coherent alternative to their eternalism, so pointing out third possibilities is important for creating space for freedom and creativity.

What is an “eternalist”? I readily grant that there are coherent ethical systems outside Christianity.

i.e. An atheist might have a coherent moral system based on convention. Limited, but coherent.
