I had to look up “market socialism” (wtf) and by doing so discovered that the Wikipedia has banned JS Mill for wrongthink:pic.twitter.com/lj34WYDfEN
According to the relevant local (i.e. Wikipedia-specific) blacklist, it's econlib in general that's banned.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist#econlib.org … this seems to be the story of why it's on there, I'm reading now.
OH GOD. I’m so glad I maintain a resolute policy of not messing with Wikipedia. It’s still surprisingly good despite this sort of thing… but fighting the good fight against overwhelming odds is not my thing.
Having read it, I can't tell if this is partisan hackery with a thinly-disguised excuse, or just organic bureaucratic insanity in defense of rote application of THE RULES. (of course, why not both?)
My late sister and her husband (both mildly famous scientists) had an endless “are they stupid or evil?” argument going. My opinion, when consulted, was always the same as yours: “why not both?”
Econlib being on a Wikipedia blacklist, for any reason whatsoever, is highly insane and speaks very badly of their operation.
