Half-assed theory: modernity provided conditions of possibility for actual intellectuals; postmodernity does not, so they are extinct.

Pseudo-X is characteristic of postmodernism (worship of surfaces and simulacra) which I for one reject.

In a more straightforward sense, a pseudo intellectual might be someone trying to be a midern-model intellectual and failing.

I doubt any of us are doing that, so either way I’m not enthusiastic about the label “pseudo-intellectual”.

Maybe I’m taking this too seriously (and maybe even thinking like a modern person here). But there’s a scent of nihilism in “pseudo”

The ambiguity between seriousness and play of thinkers/writers like ourselves is characteristic of metamodernism in @SethAbramson’s sense

I think we can celebrate our role in breaking the path to a positive new cultural mode—not a failing imitation of modern intellectualism

I’ll take “ambiguity between serious and playful.” Anything to counteract the ponderousness of “intellectual” :)

Post-X is nihilistic. Pseudo-X is defeatist. Meta-X is reconstructionist. Maybe its time to just move on to Y though?

What would meta-rationality be if it wasn't meta? What would rationality be if it didn't exclude the parts of reality hard to reason about?

Perhaps “fluid cognition” is a better name for the thing itself, and “metarationality” is useful in explaining its development & history
