Contemporary Buddhists are flatly unwilling to consider what parts are correct or incorrect. This was NOT so for most of the 20th Century.
The Mahayana sutras are much longer. Many are online, and you can skip around in them at random too.

Spending a few hours doing that does give you a sense of what the texture of the scriptural corpus is.

I would guess that much less than 1% of Western Buddhists have spent more than a couple hours reading scripture. It is not encouraged…
