Contemporary Buddhists are flatly unwilling to consider what parts are correct or incorrect. This was NOT so for most of the 20th Century.
Deliberately not actually reading scripture is one of the ways contemporary Buddhists maintain their blind faith.

Because once you start actually reading them… it gets harder and harder to take them seriously.

Good point, and I appreciate your sacrifice! I admit I have not yet read suttras extensively, not seeing them useful.
