Yeah, hard to know. But I suspect a degree of “false consciousness” in the existentialist sense. Buddhists are thick, but not THAT thick.

I don't think it's about intelligence, but degree of seduction into the certainty of the dharma as a final curative answer.

Yes… I’m not sure people can ever be fully convinced, though. There’s always cognitive dissonance you have to actively suppress.
