Contemporary Buddhists are flatly unwilling to consider what parts are correct or incorrect. This was NOT so for most of the 20th Century.

2/2 Certainly Buddhists still police the boundaries of orthodoxy. e.g. critiques of Dolpo-pa's theology or Shugden in Tibetan context

Yeah, but this is within the system (hair-splitting schisms), and also is highly ritualized.

Both those “controversies” date back to the time of the 5th Dalai Lama, and have no significant intellectual content as they play out now.
