That’s part of it, but a late one. It began with Cantor theory and “actual infinities”, which many mathematicians didn’t accept at the time.
And maybe they were right not to, because trying to make sense of them led to Godel problems. But, you can’t do calculus without them.
Real numbers look finite on the outside, but hve actual infinities hidden within —and this seems to make mathematicians uneasy.
Well, as far as Cantor, accept it or do not: either way interesting mathematics can proceed. 1/2
As far as Gödel: a correct philosophy will follow the evidence; not try to bend the evidence to fit pre-existing & firmly held philosophy.
