Mid-50s… I date the end of the “subcultural era” to about 2000, so you just caught the tail end of it as it was dissolving

Not saying that was better, but that it was very different from, e.g., 4chan, which is “atomized” in my taxonomy.

thing is imageboards consist not only of boards, but also lots of small cabals that cluster around it (irc, skype, teamspeak…)
