@Meaningness : Let me know what you discover. I was kind of shocked there was one on the market considering what I've read about the field.
Can't find any explanation of what the supposed D-Wave quantum computer actually does. Null hypothesis: pure hype.

@VincentHorn@St_Rev Sole source of public info is this: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/business/quantum-study.pdf … Reading it now. - 5 more replies

@Meaningness SciAm appears to agree with me, which is never a good sign: http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/2013/05/17/is-it-quantum-computing-or-not/ … -
@St_Rev Yeah, the current claim is that it does quantum annealing. Not clear how/whether that beats regular annealing. Reading McGeoch now. - 8 more replies

OK, here’s the sole public source of info on D-Wave: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/business/quantum-study.pdf … which I find utterly unconvincing. Probably nothing there.

@Meaningness Funniest thing I ever read about QC:"In 2001, Shor's algorithm was demonstrated by a group at IBM, who factored 15 into 3 × 5." - 1 more reply

@Meaningness Scott Aaronson was a harsh critic of D-wave but eventually backed off. I'm not remotely qualified to judge, myself. -
@St_Rev Found Scott Aaronson’s blog post on it from yesterday: http://www.scottaaronson.com/blog/?p=1400 Summary: D-Wave doesn’t do anything interesting.

@Meaningness My EXTREMELY unqualified impression is that D-wave has a computer that is quantum but not a quantum computer.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
