If "Buddhist ethics" were discredited, would that force Western Buddhists to do real ethical work?

@Meaningness eg. In Buddhism insight into what is, is not separate from the understanding of how things ought to be. That is unique. -
@jussiahlroth Hmm, interesting, but I'm puzzled. Some secular Western ethicists do deny is-ought distinction.
