You suggest there's an element of surprise. Does agendaless mean idle? Not necessarily. Intention need not be agenda. It's one thing to aim at wonder, and my guess is guidance *what not to do* would be helpful. It's another to come up with a method. I think we need a setting.

It seems like sticking closer to evolutionary-style explanations (even if they're "just-so" stories) would avoid getting lost in vagueness here? I like the explanation of awe as a combination of surprise and fear, encouraging attention to one's environment.
