It seems weird to me that private for-profit hospitals Are Not Good at seemingly BASIC applications of the germ theory of disease to their own buildings and people. Like... how can MRSA and CDiff lurk in hospitals for DECADES and not be eradicated? What am I missing?

In my experience, this can give geeks an edge in negotiations with neurotypical alpha male blowhards. We’re just not impressed by that stuff. “Issue a credible specific threat or get lost” can work.

By far the best way to gain dominance is by credible-enough bluffing. This seems to be true of alpha male behavior in organizational hierarchies as well. “You have to pick your fights” is a biz-guy cliche, but for good reasons.
