Makes me think of the Proustian notion of only really experiencing things when you’re reminded of them later — nothing to resonate with the first time around but the second time the madeleine rings a bell, so to speak.

This is why eg. reading recommendations are very difficult. It’s a deeply personal experience, and I’ve noticed that one’s lenses are sufficiently idiosyncratic that other readers might not share them. What’s also interesting is how much “translation” good communication requires.
